Caring for your jewellery
Fine jewellery rewards a small amount of attention. Here's how to keep your E'lhaa pieces looking the way they did the day they arrived — for as long as you wear them.
Daily wear
Diamonds are the hardest natural material on the Mohs scale, so they hold up to everyday wear beautifully. The gold around them is softer. Two habits make a noticeable difference:
- Put your jewellery on last. Perfume, hairspray, body lotion and sunscreen all coat the surface and dull the brilliance over time. Spray, moisturise, dress — then add your pieces.
- Take it off before showers, swimming and sleep. Chlorine and salt water are tougher on metal than on stones; sleep is when prongs can catch on bedding.
Storage
Each piece arrives in a soft pouch. Storing pieces separately stops harder stones from scratching softer gold settings. If you're stacking rings or layering necklaces, keep them in individual pouches between wears.
For travel, the original E'lhaa box is the safest carrier. It's lined to stop pieces moving and was made to fit one ring, one pendant, or one pair of earrings without contact.
Cleaning at home
A quick weekly clean keeps a diamond's brilliance up:
- Mix a small bowl of warm water with a drop of mild washing-up liquid.
- Drop the piece in for 5–10 minutes.
- Brush gently around the setting and underneath the diamond with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
- Rinse in clean water and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
Don't use ultrasonic cleaners on champagne diamonds or any piece you're not sure about — they can loosen prongs over time. When in doubt, send it to us.
White gold needs re-plating every 18–24 months
Our white gold pieces are rhodium-plated for that crisp white finish. The plating wears naturally with daily contact. When it does, the underlying gold shows through with a slightly warmer tone. We re-plate every piece free of charge for the lifetime of your warranty.
Send it back to the atelier once a year
Once a year, send your piece back to us for a complimentary check-and-clean. We inspect every prong, clean every facet, re-plate white gold if needed, and return the piece looking the way it did the day it left the atelier. Email hello@elhaa.co.uk with your order number and we'll arrange collection.
The lifetime warranty
Every E'lhaa piece is covered by a lifetime warranty. We cover:
- Loose stones, broken prongs, broken clasps
- Re-plating of white gold pieces
- Resizing rings up or down as your size changes
- Manufacturing defects of any kind, no questions asked
The warranty doesn't cover accidental loss or extreme physical damage — but our atelier can usually repair almost anything for a quoted cost. Send a photo to hello@elhaa.co.uk and we'll come back with options.
